From Military Uniform to Traditional Bridal Gown

Who says a City Hall wedding has to be no-frills ?

Patricia wanted to get married at City Hall and brought two outfits for her wedding.  For her ceremony she wore her military uniform. Afterwards, she went into the ladies room and changed to her white bridal gown. A childhood friend and a complete stranger helped her change clothes and do her hair, as if we were in a glamorous bridal suite. After redoing her hair and make up, we were the last ones left in the bureau. It’s amazing to see the transformation and great to have both of the looks she really wanted.

A Festive Pride Month

This June has been a Pride Month to remember. The Supreme Court has struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8. As one of the growing number of Marriage Equality states, New York is a magnet for same sex couples who want to "make it legal." Congratulations!

City Hall Glamour

Weddings at City Hall, or more accurately, the City Clerk's Office have their own no-frills charm.  You get a ceremony that goes by so fast, there's no time to cry and smear your make-up.  The former Motor Vehicles Department office has been refurbished and it looks pretty nice. Right outside are some impressive municipal buildings, including the New York County Supreme Court featured at the beginning of Law and Order.

Outside the City Clerk's Office

Don't blink or you'll miss it. The ceremony is about one minute long.

Since it's not really in City Hall, there's this mural for photos.

Congratulations to Michelle and Mark, married on May 16!

New York City Hall Weddings

Usually couples who travel from outside NYC are wanting a less formal and shorter time for wedding pictures. It's really popular to have a wedding in the City Clerk's Office.  I do a photography package especially for these downtown weddings.  First the ceremony, afterwards we travel to City Hall Park with a beautiful antique fountain and finish with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge.  My favorite spot is right underneath the bridge. It looms large in the background.  It's fun be surrounded by so many happy wedding couples.  It's great for people watching, which makes up for the waiting time.

Double Wedding at City Hall

This wedding was the first double wedding I have been asked to photograph.  Four friends came to New York City to do their marriages together.  It turned out to be a perfect day for all of them.  We met at the City Hall's Marriage Bureau and each couple got married in the same room one right after the next.  We did all their photos in downtown locations.  First City Hall Park where the spring flowers were blooming and then Pier 17 at South Street Seaport for a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
